One position battle to watch at every Jaguars position group in minicamp

Mandatory minicamp has arrived for the Jacksonville Jaguars, running from June 9 through 11.

During this time of the year, many will be watching the key positional battles that will be taking place on the roster, whether that be for playing time or final roster spots.

Although what happens in minicamp won’t ultimately determine the winner of those competitions, what takes place over these three days provides us with insight into where things stand and lays the foundation for what’s to come.

Some position battles will be more intense and intriguing than others, but here is a rundown of every potential camp competition that could take place over the coming months.
roster?

UDFA Joey Aguilar will be competing with Carter Bradley for this role. Last year, the Jaguars carried only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, while the third was on the practice squad.

Chris Rodriguez, Bhayshul Tuten, and LeQuint Allen will all have regular roles this season, but on paper, someone has to hold the title of RB1. Through OTAs, Tuten has shouldered that workload with Rodriguez injured.

Will Nate Boerkircher take Quintin Morris‘ blocking-heavy role as TE2? Will Tanner Koziol‘s presence push Hunter Long off the roster?

Rookies Josh Cameron and CJ Williams will presumably round out the Jaguars’ wide receiver depth chart. But to earn those spots, they’ll have to stand out over veterans Austin Trammell and Tim Jones. The ability to contribute on special teams will go a long way in earning those roster spots.

The addition of Emmanuel Pregnon adds size to the Jaguars’ offensive line unit. Could he push Patrick Mekari for playing time? Or will Mekari’s experience be a differentiator?

Wesley Williams, BJ Green, Danny Striggow, and Zach Durfee are all competing for playing time behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker in the defensive tackle rotation.
for a roster spot?

At the top of the depth chart are Arik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Ruke Orhohoro, and Albert Regis. Dickerson is the presumed fifth player in the rotation, but he’s not a roster lock either. Can any of the young players provide some competition?
‘s job to lose?

The Jaguars have been bullish about Miller stepping into a starting role all offseason, and the lack of major moves at the linebacker position is further proof of that. It looks like this is Miller’s job for the taking.

What we know right now is that Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Jarrian Jones make up the first four spots on the roster. The next one to two spots on the depth chart are up for grabs, although Christian Braswell is a likely favorite for one of those roles.

Caleb Ransaw, Jalen Huskey, and Rayuan Lane could all be in the mix for that role. While not a starting spot, the third safety sees their share of snaps in Anthony Campanile’s defense.
