On the right track: Vote for the OCM Athlete of the Week

Abby Masterson from the Plymouth South softball team is the Old Colony Memorial Athlete of the Week. The junior’s three-run home run ignited the Panthers to a win over Danvers on May 29 in the opening round of the Division 2 state tournament.

Masterson tallied 53.11 percent of the 17,115 votes tabulated this week. Senior Kai Waters from the Plymouth South baseball team finished second with 39.65 percent after getting two hits and driving in both runs for South in a 3-2 loss at Pembroke High.

Congratulations to all of this week’s nominees and thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.

We have arrived at the final week of the spring season with state titles about to be decided all across the state. The final Athlete of the Week poll will be an all-track and field choice, highlighting some of the top efforts from the recent MIAA divisional state championship and the Meet of Champions.

With that said, here are this week’s nominees.

Davies finished her final high school track and field season by winning her first Patriot League MVP award. Her final meet was the MIAA Div. 3 state championship on May 28 where she placed third in the discus (112.9) and fourth in the shot put (35-10).

McNeil won his first Patriot League Fisher Division MVP award. Competing at the Meet of Champions, McNeil finished 9th in the 400 hurdles (55.77) and placed 17th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 50.35 seconds.

The Patriot League Track and Field MVP for the second spring in a row, Herndon placed fourth in the 200-meter race at the Division 2 state championships.

Monteiro won the 800-meter event in a school record time of 1:54.75 at the Division 2 state championships.

The poll includes players from Plymouth North, Plymouth South, and the Rising Tide Charter School. Votes are unlimited. Voting closes each Sunday at noon. Emailed votes will not be counted.
