The Oklahoma State Cowboys are going to have a tall task on Saturday with Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks coming to town, and their things just got a little bit tougher.
On Tuesday, Cowboys’ head coach Eric Morris confirmed that starting left tackle Jacob Sexton will miss the remainder of the year after suffering a lower-leg injury in the Week 1 loss to the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. Sexton suffered the injury on the first offensive series of the game for OSU last week and was replaced by Desmond Magiya for the remainder of the contest.
Oklahoma State’s official depth chart ahead of the Week 2 matchup vs. Oregon lists Magiya “OR” sophomore Shaun Torgeson as the starting left tackle.
“Heart goes out to Jacob, a guy who has definitely been our best offensive lineman since we’ve been here,” Morris said Saturday after the game. “Somebody that’s worked so hard this offseason to get himself back into shape. He’s been plagued by injuries his whole entire career.”
For the Ducks, this could be major news, as Oregon’s defensive line is already expected to be a dominant unit in this game against Oklahoma State. Oregon had three sacks and four QB hurries against Boise State in Week 1, despite facing limited pass-rushing opportunities. The Cowboys throw the ball often — QB Drew Mestemaker had 49 attempts in Week 1 — so this could be a big chance for guys like Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, and Nasir Wyatt to get after the quarterback.
Now they’ll get a chance to do it against a backup offensive tackle.
