The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mining Marshals have intensified their crackdown on economic saboteurs and illegal miners across the country.
Speaking on the ongoing operations, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC Attah John Onoja, said the enforcement activities would continue across the country without a predetermined sequence.
He assured operators of the Corps’ resolve to ensure that mining activities are conducted within the confines of the law in Nigeria.
According to him, the latest operation in Nasarawa State, carried out in collaboration with the Federal Mines Officer and the team responsible for mining regulation in the state, was aimed at ensuring compliance with established mining laws, operational guidelines and safety requirements.
He added that the renewed efforts were in line with the mandates of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, to curb illegal mining and eliminate revenue leakages in the sector.
He warned that all mining operators must possess valid licences and fulfil the requisite regulatory and operational conditions before commencing mining activities.
