Terre Haute North opened the Indiana District 8 Little League 12-year-old all-star baseball tournament with an 8-2 win over Avon on Monday at North’s ballpark.
Also, West Terre Haute dropped a 17-2 decision to Brownsburg in Monday’s first game at North.
In other District 8 games Monday, Danville beat Washington Township 11-1 and Lebanon defeated Eagle Creek 5-2 in a pair of games at Brownsburg.
Monday’s outcomes set up Tuesday matchups between Lebanon and Terre Haute North at 6 p.m. and Washington Township vs. West Terre Haute (both at North); and Avon vs. Eagle Creek, and Danville vs. Brownsburg (both at Brownsburg).
In Monday’s win by Terre Haute North, starting pitcher Harrison Stepp pitched four innings, striking out five batters and walking none. Relievers Parks Lawson and Theo McMullen finished up for the winners.
At the plate, Cruz Loudermilk and Tanner Goda hit safely twice for North, while Stepp, Goda and Alden Wheat had two RBIs apiece.
Stepp’s sacrifice fly and a RBI single by Wheat gave North its first two runs in the top of the first inning. Then, after Avon tied the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, North took the lead for good in the third inning on Goda’s two-run single and Bronx Thomas’ sacrifice fly.
Additional details on West Terre Haute’s Monday game were not available.
