What a difference a day makes. In Game 1 of the World Series final, North Carolina jumped out to a 1st inning 3-2 lead. Those would be the only runs they would score in that game while Oklahoma added 9 runs in five innings. On Saturday, the shoe was on the other foot. Oklahoma scored two in the first and never again, while North Carolina added six runs in three scoring innings.
Oklahoma star catcher Deiten Lachance, two homeruns in Game 1, went 0-4. While the Sooners offense could not generate runs, the bigger issue for Oklahoma was the pitching. Freshman Xavier Mercurius got the start and fell behind early in the 3rd inning. Giving up three runs and loading the bases. He was able to battle out of that jam. However, Mercurius had already reached 50 pitches in three innings. He was pulled in the 4th. The Sooners would go onto use seven pitchers in this game.
The Tar Heels win now forces a Game 3 on Monday. That game will start at 7pm EST and will broadcast on ESPN.
