NNPCL to deploy 70 self-service fuel stations nationwide as petrol attendants fear job loss

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced plans to deploy between 50 and 70 smart, self-service filling stations nationwide.

The Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, Mumuni Dagazau, disclosed this on Thursday while unveiling a smart mega station in Abuja.

According to him, the initiative, which is expected to materialise within six months, is part of a broader plan to transform its conventional retail outlets into modern energy and mobility hubs offering petrol, electric vehicle charging, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas and other services.

“We are hoping to roll out a significant number, probably about 50 to 70 of these types of stations within the next six months. So this is what you’ll be seeing going forward from NNPC,” he stated.

However, the move could displace petrol attendants from their jobs in a country with limited employment opportunities.

DAILY POST reports that between 10 million and 80 million Nigerians are unemployed.
