Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City.
The Spaniard has signed a long-term contract at St. James’ Park, where he was unveiled before the Magpies’ EFL Cup tie against West Brom on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old made 59 appearances for City, scoring four goals before his reported £52m move to Newcastle, despite stating earlier this summer he did not want to leave.
Newcastle have strengthened their midfield following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and Nico is raring to go under Matthias Jaissle.
“I’m really happy to be here at this amazing club,” Nico told the Newcastle website.
“I’ve only heard top words about the club and the city, so I’m really excited to live here and to be part of this project,” Nico told the club website.

“I love the black and white shirt already, and I can’t wait to start wearing it on the pitch for this club.
“I’ve experienced playing at St. James’ Park twice with Manchester City and it was really tough.
“The atmosphere was amazing and the fans are so passionate. I can’t wait to experience that as a home player.”
Since Nico’s Premier League debut in February 2025, only Rodri (87) has made more successful passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League than Nico (68) among midfielders.
His most important contribution in a City shirt came in last season’s FA Cup semi-final as he scored a late stunner at Wembley Stadium to clinch a 2-1 win over Southampton.
Nico, who previously represented Barcelona at both academy and senior level, could make his Newcastle debut when they face Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.
