We’re coming up on the midway point of the season, and we’re still getting some major developments in the league that shake up the fantasy football landscape. In light of these recent developments, let’s look at which players fantasy football managers should drop ahead of Week 9.

TE Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

In light of Lamar Jackson’s thumb injury that sent him to IR, the pass-catchers of the Baltimore Ravens are in dire straits for the next few weeks. Tyler Huntley is also likely out for the next few weeks with a turf toe injury, which leaves the quarterback room with a large hole. Zay Flowers nearly made the list, but his performance without Jackson in previous weeks is encouraging, to say the least.

The same can’t be said for Mark Andrews, whose performance this season has dwindled without Jackson. With the former MVP missing significant time this season, it’s time for Mark Andrews owners to let the star tight end go and find a different tight end for this season.

RB Emmanuel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

With Zach Charbonnet back in the lineup again for the Seattle Seahawks, Emmanuel Wilson has predictably fallen out of the pecking order for running backs. Charbonnet and rookie Jadarian Price took the lion’s share of the snaps last season, and George Holani took the rest of the scraps left. Wilson, who was an early-season pickup after Price and Charbonnet’s injuries, should be comfortably left off rosters at this point in the season.

WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There’s clearly something wrong with Baker Mayfield. Even though the quarterback has returned to action after suffering a hand injury, Tampa Bay has deliberately stayed away from passing over the last two games. Mayfield did not complete any of his three (!!!) passing attempts in Week 8, which leaves Tampa Bay’s pass-catchers in an uncomfortable position in fantasy football.

Chris Godwin hasn’t played particularly well well enough this season to hope that Mayfield’s eventual return to full strength will result in a bounce back from him. Fantasy football managers should find better options, at this point.

RB JK Dobbins, Denver Broncos

Dobbins still has a high ownership amongst fantasy football managers, hovering at around 88%. However, his stock is rapidly declining with the arrival of Jonah Coleman. Even with RJ Harvey out for Week 8 after being placed on IR, Dobbins still did not see significant playing time. He was present for just 13 offensive snaps for Denver against the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s out of the Broncos’ offensive game plan for now, and he’s not worth a roster spot, especially in shallower leagues.

RB Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers

Another victim of a low snap count, Hampton’s role in the Chargers offense has steadily declined over the course of the season. Projected as the team’s RB1 for the season, Hampton was third among RBs in snap count, behind Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell. He was ineffective in the snaps that he did touch the ball, scoring just 5.4 fantasy points this week. He should be cut this week as fantasy football managers look for a better option.

NFL Week 9 fantasy football drop

WR Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Chiefs

An opportunity for Worthy to step up came in the last few weeks, with both Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton out. However, Worthy was, well, not worthy of a starting role during that time. With Rice back in the lineup and running back Emmett Johnson emerging as a big-play threat, the Chiefs wide receiver might find himself with less touches moving forward.

QB Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

This might be a hot take, but it’s not that outlandish. The Ravens are 4-4 before the injuries to both Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Huntley isn’t on IR, but Jackson will miss at least four weeks with his thumb injury. Jackson should be a stash option, but if he comes back to a 4-8 Ravens team that isn’t in the playoff hunt, Baltimore might decide to sit the star quarterback out for good. Because of that, Jackson might be a cut candidate.
