Fans may have already seen the last of Beneil Dariush inside the Octagon. The veteran lightweight has endured a difficult stretch lately, losing four of his last five UFC fights, with all four defeats coming by knockout.

Most recently, Dariush was stopped by Quillan Salkilld at UFC Perth in May 2026. Before that, he suffered three knockout losses, including a brutal 16-second finish against Benoit Saint Denis in November 2025.

His other defeats came against Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira, raising serious questions about his durability at this stage of his career. Now 37, Dariush appears to be in no rush to return to competition unless the UFC comes up with something particularly special.

Beneil Dariush Prioritizes Coaching Duties, Needs Something Special to Return to the UFC

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Dariush spoke to Mike Bohn about his reluctance to fight again. He also revealed that he has made his position clear to UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and isn’t particularly interested in entertaining any fight offers right now.

Instead, his attention has shifted toward coaching and working as a cornerman for fighters like Uros Medic, who is scheduled to compete at UFC 334.

Dariush explained, “Honestly, I don’t have plans right now. My focus is these guys. I’ve got these guys in November, I’ve got these guys in December. If I feel like it, maybe next year, but right now, the way the ball is rolling, I’ve got no complaints. Unless something big happens, I’m not jumping in anytime soon.”

Dariush also revealed that coaching has become his main priority. Although he has received grappling offers from RAF, he isn’t interested in taking on commitments that could interfere with his work in the corner.

When asked about retirement, the lightweight veteran admitted that he doesn’t want to put a definitive label on his situation. He said, “Retirement is a weird word. It’s like an American thing. I don’t want to be like, ‘I’m retired.’ Then two weeks later be like, ‘Oh, I feel like fighting again.’ If the feeling pops up, I’m calling Sean Shelby, or I’m calling my manager and telling them I want to go. But currently, nothing is popping up.”

Dariush also made it clear that simply returning for another fight isn’t enough to motivate him. After spending years chasing the UFC championship, he would need a compelling reason to put himself through another training camp.

He explained, “Fighting is a weird thing because I can be in the house but not be in the house. I’m sure a lot of fighters understand what I’m saying with that. To go back to fighting, I would have to have something special as far as motivation goes.”

The Kings MMA veteran concluded, “Being a champion was always the goal, and I can basically disappear even though I’m in front of the family. I was willing to do it. I don’t know if I’m willing to do it just to fight.”

Dariush has been competing professionally since 2009 and has shared the Octagon with several notable names. He also picked up impressive victories over Mateusz Gamrot, Tony Ferguson, and Renato Moicano during his UFC career.

However, he now finds himself outside the official UFC rankings for the first time since April 2015. Between his recent knockout losses and growing coaching commitments, the signs of a potential career ending are becoming harder to ignore. Dariush hasn’t officially retired, but unless something changes, fans may have already seen his final appearance inside the Octagon.
