New York Giants expected to move on from former third-round wide receiver

The NFL offseason has brought significant roster turnover as teams continue to add fresh talent. As a result, several players around the league are facing uncertain futures. One New York Giants wide receiver, however, appears to be on his way out once final roster cuts arrive.

According to The Athletic, former third-round pick Jalin Hyatt is expected to be released this summer. The Giants’ additions of several proven veteran receivers appear to have pushed Hyatt down the depth chart and toward the exit.

“Remember the buzz about Hyatt bulking up a year ago? It’s a good reminder not to get carried away with offseason hype after Hyatt had just five catches for 35 yards last season, despite the Giants being desperate for wide receiver help. Championed as a draft steal after the Giants traded up for Hyatt in the third round in 2023, the pre-draft concerns about his limited skill set have proven accurate. The influx of veteran receivers this offseason has likely ended Hyatt’s time in New York.” Dan Duggan reported.

Was promising career now has future in doubt

Hyatt entered the NFL as a dynamic playmaker after a standout career at Tennessee. However, concerns about his limited route tree followed him into the league. Those issues appear to have persisted during his time with the Giants.

Although Hyatt made plenty of explosive plays downfield in college, that production never translated to the NFL. Following an underwhelming rookie season, his snap count steadily declined. Now, he faces the possibility of searching for a new opportunity elsewhere.

He could still land on another team’s practice squad and work his way back into the league. However, Hyatt will need to prove he can offer more than just vertical speed if he hopes to revive his career.

Through three NFL seasons, Hyatt has totaled just 36 receptions for 470 yards. He has yet to score his first career touchdown.

Given those numbers and this latest development, a trade appears highly unlikely. Instead, Hyatt is expected to be released and could draw interest from teams looking to add him to their practice squad once he becomes available.
