Good morning, BBN!
After an incredible comeback victory against South Carolina last Saturday, the Cats left Columbia with plenty of battle scars. So much so that they may be in really rough shape heading into the much-anticipated home matchup against LSU.
They were already shorthanded going into the South Carolina game, particularly on defense, with Tavion Wallace and Aaron Gates unavailable and Alex Afari ruled ineligible. The situation worsened during the game, as multiple Wildcats left early, including linebacker Antwan Smith.
Head coach Will Stein acknowledged Tuesday that several players could be in danger of missing the LSU matchup.
“We’ve dealt with some injuries as of late that aren’t, hopefully, season-ending,” Stein said.
The linebacker room appears to be one of Kentucky’s biggest concerns. While Grant Godfrey and Bo Barnes performed well against South Carolina, the Wildcats have limited depth remaining behind them.
“There’s really nobody left, and we’ve got to find a way,” Stein said.
Kentucky’s first injury report of the week will provide more clarity today as the Wildcats prepare for a major test against a top-10 LSU team.
