Nigerian edtech organisation NerdzFactory Company has announced the 2026 rollout of its Experience AI programme, a major initiative aimed at deepening artificial intelligence education across public secondary schools in Nigeria.
The programme, which is being implemented in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, seeks to build on the successes recorded during its inaugural year, when 1,142 public secondary school teachers across five South-West states were trained in the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and equipped with practical classroom tools to teach the emerging technology.
According to a statement released by NerdzFactory, the free initiative provides teachers with the knowledge, resources and confidence required to introduce AI concepts in classrooms through practical and accessible learning experiences. The curriculum, jointly developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, includes lesson plans, slide presentations, videos, student activities and assessments designed to introduce learners to the foundations of artificial intelligence.
The programme was first implemented in 2025 across Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Ondo State and Ekiti State through a blended model that combined virtual training sessions with in-person workshops. The approach enabled facilitators to reach educators in both urban centres and underserved communities across the region. Each participating teacher committed to transferring the knowledge gained to at least 50 students, placing the initiative on course to impact more than 57,000 secondary school students.
The initiative also received strong backing from education authorities in the participating states. Among those who supported the first-year implementation was Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye, Commissioner for Education in Ekiti State, whose participation underscored growing recognition among policymakers that AI literacy has become an essential component of modern education.
For 2026, Experience AI will focus on two major areas. The first involves structured qualitative research among teachers who participated in the 2025 cohort. This phase will include classroom observations, teacher reflection sessions and student feedback activities aimed at understanding how AI is being integrated into Nigerian classrooms and identifying areas requiring further support. Findings from the exercise are expected to inform the design and improvement of future cohorts.
The second component of the 2026 rollout is the training of a fresh cohort of teachers across participating states. The new participants are currently undergoing the same blended virtual-and-physical training model that proved successful during the programme’s first year, thereby expanding the programme’s reach to more educators and schools nationwide.
The Experience AI curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, machine learning, bias in AI systems, large language models, AI safety, media literacy and career opportunities within the digital economy.
Speaking on the 2026 rollout, Omozele Umoren, Programmes Supervisor at NerdzFactory, said Nigerian teachers have demonstrated a strong readiness to embrace AI education but require structured support tailored to local classroom realities.
“Nigerian public school teachers are ready for AI — the readiness is already there. What has been missing is structured access and examples that fit our curriculum and classroom realities,” Umoren stated, adding that the programme seeks to determine what effective AI integration looks like in Nigerian schools and whether students are developing meaningful understanding of the technology.
Similarly, Anna Burton-Corea, Director of Global Partnerships at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, expressed optimism about the continued collaboration with NerdzFactory.
“Building on the strong foundations of the first year, we look forward to reaching thousands more teachers and students across the country, ensuring that young people in Nigeria, whatever their background, develop a foundational understanding of AI technologies and the role they can play in their lives,” she said.
With an ambitious target of training 3,150 teachers and reaching more than 157,000 students nationwide, Experience AI is positioning itself as one of the largest AI literacy initiatives within Nigeria’s public secondary education system. The programme’s organisers insist that every Nigerian child, irrespective of geographical location or socio-economic background, deserves access to the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence.
