Nelly Korda reveals what Angela Stanford told Team USA to expect from the Solheim Cup crowds

Nelly Korda and Team USA will be attempting to win the Solheim Cup on European soil this week for the first time since 2015.

The Europeans have become far more competitive in the Solheim Cup over the past 15 years, winning four and tying one of the eight clashes with the American team.

This week in the Netherlands is expected to be a fiercely contested match between the two teams.

Nelly Korda and her teammates will undoubtedly have to cope with the vast majority of the fans cheering for the European Solheim Cup players.

However, Korda will be relishing facing the Europeans at the Solheim Cup this week, as she makes her fifth appearance in the competition.

Nelly Korda reveals what Angela Stanford told Team USA to expect from the Solheim Cup crowds

Korda addressed the media on Wednesday in the Netherlands ahead of the start of the Solheim Cup later this week.

The 28-year-old American was asked by one reporter why she thinks it has been so tough for the Americans to win on foreign soil since 2015.

And Korda shared what captain Angela Stanford has told her team about what to expect from the crowds this week.

“I mean, I don’t necessarily know. I mean, in Spain, we were super close. I mean, we tied with Europe, so they retained the Cup,“ Korda said.

“Gleneagles, I feel like we played really well, but maybe we just haven’t had anything kind of — the momentum go while we’re in Europe.

“I think that what Ang and the assistants have said this week is to really rely on each other and it’s mental toughness. The crowd will definitely not be on our side. We will hear some USA chants, but I think, also, what we have to realize is that we have so many people at home supporting us and rooting for us.

“So I think when it gets tough, like, we all have to realize that we are here for each other and that we also have so many people out there supporting us.“

Nelly Korda comments on Bernardus Golf Club

Bernardus Golf Club plays host to the Solheim Cup this week, and Nelly Korda has offered her opinion on the layout.

“It is a pretty tough golf course. I mean, we’ve kind of played it in all sorts of weather, especially today (laughing),“ Korda said.

“It’s very narrow off the tee, so you have to hit it really good off the tee. It is more of like a — Jay and I said it reminds us of, like, a golf course in Australia, where there’s a lot of penalizing bunkers. But it also has, like, a linksy feel to it.

“But as I would say for match play, I don’t know, we’ll see. I would say it just depends on the weather because every single day we’ve just kind of dealt with something different.

“So one day — I think the first tee on Monday it was, like, pretty gettable and you had shorter clubs in, and it was sunny and nice, and then the next day was super windy, so everything was kind of bouncing on the greens.

“And then today it was like this. It was rainy, it was super windy, and all of a sudden 15 minutes later it was sunny and then rainy again. So I think it’s just very weather-dependent.“
