Phoenix Suns team owner Mat Ishbia recently put to rest any lingering rumors about a potential trade for Devin Booker during a public appearance. He emphatically told a fan on video that Booker will remain the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future, stating he will only be traded “when I’m dead.”

Despite Ishbia’s firm stance, speculation continues to circulate across the Western Conference regarding what a blockbuster trade might look like. Following Klay Thompson’s departure, the Golden State Warriors have been on the lookout for the perfect co-star to pair with Stephen Curry, and league insiders report that they are particularly interested in acquiring Booker if Phoenix’s championship window begins to close.

According to an analysis by Fadeaway World, which cited veteran Bay Area insider Tim Kawakami on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast, Golden State would aggressively pursue Booker if he ever becomes available. Kawakami noted, “I think the Warriors like him too much, if you ask me. But they love him. Steve loves him.” He added that Booker enjoyed playing for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. If the situation around Booker changes, Kawakami mentioned that the Warriors would likely be first in line to offer multiple first-round picks, saying, “They’ve traded every draft pick. How do they get draft picks back? How do they restart? I know the Warriors would be first in line saying, ‘we got three first round picks we can give you.'”

Kerr’s admiration for Booker grew even more during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he referred to him as Team USA’s unsung hero. With an average of 24.6 points per game throughout his career, Booker embodies an ideal mix of scoring, floor spacing, and veteran leadership that could rejuvenate Golden State’s backcourt alongside an aging core.

While analysts speculate about potential trade scenarios and debate Booker’s impact, his teammates fervently defend his overall value. Recently, when a podcast claimed that Booker primarily influences scoring without affecting playmaking or defense, Suns guard Collin Gillespie swiftly rebutted the criticism on X, calling it an outright “bad take.” For now, Ishbia and the Suns have no intention of parting with their cornerstone player.
