NBA Insider Sheds Light on Warriors’ Behind-the-Scenes Talks With Steph Curry

The Golden State Warriors are in a dire situation, as they look to give Steph Curry a championship team in the twilight of his NBA career. Although the four-time NBA champion looks more than ready to contend for another title, even her wife thinks so, the franchise’s preparedness hasn’t seemed up to the mark. NBA analyst Nick Friedell shed light on what’s going on behind the scenes in a recent interview.

Meanwhile, there have also been rumors that Curry wanted a trade away from the Warriors. However, those seem to stem from frustration, as the sharpshooter has himself clarified multiple times that he wanted to end his career on the same team. On The Athletic on Wednesday, the analyst dug deep into the relationship.

Friedell reported that though Curry wished to remain with the Warriors, he also wanted them to navigate through a difficult phase. Jimmy Butler‘s ACL tear and Moses Moody‘s torn left patellar tendon left them nowhere last season.

The analyst believed that Curry “has never developed a reputation for pressuring the front office into specific moves.” Moreover, the franchise didn’t want to pour their draft picks into a desperate move that doesn’t give a long-term return. That was also what Curry said he and the franchise have always followed: not to sacrifice the future for the present.

Steph Curry is in the final year of his deal with the Warriors and will earn more than $60 million. He is now eligible to sign a max extension with the team. Though there have been several rumors about him negotiating a contract with the Warriors, there is no official confirmation.

Friedell, in his aforementioned article, gave a positive picture of Curry signing an extension:

Steph Curry and the Warriors have to sort a lot of things before the 2026-27 season begins, as the team needs more offensive wepons of they are aiming for a title run.
