It’s always odd seeing NBA players standing next to regular-sized people, but some NBA giants take these scale photos to new heights. Just look at 7-foot-3 NBA player Bol Bol:
Here are 28 photos of NBA giants next to averaged-sized folk:
1. Check out Bol Bol’s father, Manute Bol, standing next to artist Nelly in an NBA Celebrity game back in 2003. The pressure of guarding a player that size probably had Nelly thinking that it was getting “Hot In Herre”.
2. Look at these height differences on the free-throw line. And mind you, this is Bol next to NBA players.
3. Here is Bol at a celebrity boxing event, standing toe-to-toe with 6-foot-2 “The Refrigerator” William Perry and gymnast Olga Korbut between them.
4. Gheorghe Muresan stands next to Billy Crystal on set for the 1998 movie My Giant. I love looking at the scale in these photos because, obviously, he is towering over his co-star, Crystal, but check out the hot dog in his hand. He makes it look like a Little Smokey.
5. Here is an image of Muresan shooting a hook shot. Nothing seems special about this photo, but just look at a young Shaq. He is jumping as high as he possibly can and exerting the most energy I’ve ever seen a big man use just for a chance to block the shot. Just look at their hands compared to the 10-foot basketball rim…AND Muresan’s foot isn’t even off the ground.
6. For lovers of the O.G. Space Jam (1996) film, you probably recognize 7-foot-6 Shawn Bradley as the tallest player to have his talents stolen by The Monstars. Here he is next to Austin McCann and “Muggsy” Bogues.
7. Just Bradley towering over some young fans.
8. Standing at 7-foot-6, Tacko Fall stands out at any red carpet event.
9. Here is Fall next to reality TV star Taylor Frankie Paul.
10. Yao Ming might be the most iconic big man in NBA history. At 7-foot-6, he helped bring global attention to basketball in a way that showed anyone from across the world could play the game. Here he is walking out with a fan to…wait, is that David Beckham he is towering over???
11. Here is Yao handing over a ticket to the Yao Foundation Charity Game to a normal-sized fan.
12. Can you spot Yao at China’s annual National People’s Congress? This is what a giant looks like sitting among smaller people.
13. Look at Sim Bhullar towering over his college coach, Marvin Menzies. Bhullar is listed at 7 feet 5 inches.
14. It must be impossible to ever get a good shot. I’d be worried about my double chin from all the low angles.
15. Seven-foot-five Chuck Nevitt is one of the tallest basketball players in history. This is an image of Nevitt next to Byron Scott, who was listed at 6-foot-4 during his NBA career.
16. Pavel Podkolzin shakes hands with NBA Commish David Stern. Podkolzin is listed at 7-foot-5, while Stern is sub-six-feet.
17. Here is Slavko Vranes waiting for an elevator. The top of the elevator door is at his neck.
18. Here’s Vranes next to WNBA player Teresa Weatherspoon.
19. At six feet, Tim Hardaway struggles to look around 7-foot-4 Mark Eaton. Imagine trying to get any buckets past a giant.
20. Here is Eaton next to his Utah Jazz teammate John Stockton.
21. From starring in John Wick Chapter 3 to playing in the NBA, Boban Marjanovic is tough to lose in a crowd.
22. Boban Marjanovic looks like a fever dream in this photo.
23. Ralph Sampson addresses fans at the University of Virginia
24. Victor Wembanyama, 7-foot-4, poses with a fan.
25. A fan looks up in awe at Wembanyama. Wemby might be the NBA’s biggest poster child we will ever see. The man can ball.
26. Zach Edey, with his NBA teammates, looks like a high school yearbook photo, and he’s the teacher. Mind you, the teammates at his side in this picture are around 6 feet 3 inches tall.
27. Tennis great Rafael Nadal looks like a child next to NBA legend Pau Gasol. Gasol is the shortest entry on this list at 7-foot-nada.
28. And lastly: Shaq next to Kevin Hart.
