N10m threat: Security forces arrest suspected bandits’ informant in Sokoto

Security forces have arrested a suspected informant accused of supplying information to bandits following a N10 million threat against Romo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The development was contained in a post shared on Wednesday by crisis reporter in the North-West region, Bakatsine, via his X handle.

According to Bakatsine, the suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar from Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was arrested over alleged collaboration with criminal elements operating around Tambuwal communities.

He said residents of Romo village had allegedly been given an ultimatum to pay N10 million or face an attack.

The arrest followed ongoing efforts by security forces to identify individuals allegedly providing information and support to bandits operating in the affected communities.

The development is part of ongoing security operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action and disrupting their networks across the North-West region, particularly in vulnerable communities.

Bakatsine said the arrest further highlights the importance of intelligence in preventing attacks and disrupting criminal networks.
