English soccer star Harry Kane says he still hopes to kick in the NFL some day

English soccer star Harry Kane has long said he’d like to try kicking in the NFL, and he reiterated today that it remains a long-term goal.

Kane has also talked about playing golf professionally, but he told reporters today that while golf is a dream, American football is a legitimate career path.

“That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously,” Kane said, via TheAthletic.com. “It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”

Kane even said he’d try to play both soccer and football simultaneously if the right opportunity came along to play in the NFL and Major League Soccer.

“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two, with the seasons,” he said.

Kane said he thinks his ability to perform under pressure when kicking soccer penalty kicks would translate well to the pressure of a game-winning field goal.

“I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique,” Kane said. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport. But as I know, with all elite sports, when you watch it on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it is possible, but that is not always the case. If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before.”

Realistically, the 33-year-old Kane is highly unlikely to take up American football at this point and become good enough to kick in the NFL. But it’s still noteworthy that one of the most popular athletes in the world says he may one day go to an NFL minicamp and give a new sport a shot.
