One German football insider has now addressed recent transfer rumours involving Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich.
On Sunday, TEAMtalk claimed that the Bundesliga champions continue to hold a strong interest in the 23-year-old since last summer, having coveted him prior to his big-money transfer to Liverpool in June 2025.
The report added that some figures at Anfield ‘have concerns’ as to whether the playmaker will ever ‘reach the extraordinary levels expected of him’ at the time of the £116m deal to lure him from Bayer Leverkusen, with our number 7 enduring a difficult first season in English football.
Falk clarifies Wirtz to Bayern rumours
German reporter Christian Falk has indicated that Bayern aren’t actively pursuing Wirtz at present, although they would be the first club to whom the player would turn his attention if he were to seek a return to his homeland.
He outlined for CF Bayern Insider: ‘It is not true [that] Bayern Munich are tracking Florian Wirtz and could make a shock move for the Liverpool player. My information is that this is not true.
‘Of course, there is a big history between FC Bayern and Wirtz. There were two secret meetings before he decided on Liverpool: the first one in Munich and then in Liverpool as well. At the time, Arne Slot persuaded the German international to switch to Merseyside. If there is such a connection, you’re always going to have rumours.’

Falk added: ‘If Florian Wirtz were, at some point in future, interested in making a return to the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich would be the first team he’d talk to. However, there is nothing planned. Bayern have a big squad and everyone’s feeling really confident.
‘Musiala has a long contract and don’t forget that Vincent Kompany is trying a new system with Michael Olise as the fulcrum in the centre – the same position he currently plays in for the French national team, so Bayern have a lot of options. Don’t forget, either, that it was a lot of money Liverpool paid for Wirtz.’

Liverpool surely won’t give up on Wirtz any time soon
The 23-year-old’s performances in the opening weeks of this season have fluctuated, with some mixed reactions among pundits to what they’ve seen from him.
Steve Nicol hailed the German’s display against Atletico Madrid last week as his best for Liverpool, yet three days later called for him to be dropped after a subdued outing against Fulham (ESPN FC). Meanwhile, Paul Merson stated that the Reds can no longer ‘wait on’ Wirtz to consistently excel for the club after more than a year in English football.
It’s fair to claim that our number 7 hasn’t consistently hit the levels we’d hoped to see from him at Anfield, but there’s no way that LFC will give up on him this early on in his time on Merseyside, especially after investing more than £100m to sign him.
Bayern might well try to maintain their interest in the player and hope for an opening to pounce, but realistically we don’t envisage him seeking or being made available for a transfer any time soon.
The Bavarian club might have been able to lure Luis Diaz from Liverpool last year, but hopefully they won’t repeat the trick with Wirtz, who we’re still backing to become a massively influential figure for the Reds this season.
