MSG, YES Network to move streaming coverage of New York sports to DAZN, axing unpopular Gotham app

nFor Connecticut fans of several New York-area sports franchises, the controversial Gotham Sports App will be no more ahead of the 2026-27 season.

MSG Networks and Stamford-based YES Network announced Wednesday that streaming of their broadcasts will be moved exclusively to DAZN ahead of the NBA and NHL seasons, which will include coverage of the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils. Streaming coverage of the New York Yankees is expected to remain on the Gotham Sports App through the duration of the 2026 season.

The exact timing of the announced move has yet to be determined. Users who watch the YES Network and MSG Networks as part of a pay TV subscription will continue to receive network content through the DAZN platform at no additional cost.

YES Network was founded in 2002 by the New York Yankees, seeking to leverage the team’s broadcast rights better, and is headquartered in Stamford, Conn. In 2024, the network embarked on a joint venture with MSG Networks to create Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment, combining their direct-to-consumer services under a singular streaming platform.

The Gotham Sports App has faced significant criticism over the past two years, with complaints ranging from repeated authentication issues to videos not playing because of network issues. On the Google Play Store, the app has a 1.9-star rating with over 2,000 reviews.
