MM 8.11: Maryland men’s lacrosse alumni donate $1 million for facility upgrades

Former Maryland men’s lacrosse players Scott and Craig Hochstadt donated $1 million to their former program, marking the latest significant alumni donation across Maryland athletics.

The generous donation is intended to be put towards off-the-field costs for the Terps, including meeting rooms, practice facilities and a landmark celebrating the team’s storied history; a history the two brothers were deeply entrenched in. 

The sons of Maryland legend Ira “Chief” Hochstadt, Scott and Craig grew up attending games at the then-Byrd Stadium before finding their way onto the team’s roster. Following in the footsteps of their father, who captained the 1971 national finalist squad, the pair went on to achieve a flurry of conference championships and tournament appearances.

This donation continues the tradition of philanthropy in the Hochstadt family, who continue to operate an array of youth clinics and foundations following Ira’s death in 2025.
