MLB insider Ken Rosenthal pours water on one of the biggest pitching trade rumors

With the MLB trade deadline just around the corner, Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene has been one of the most frequently discussed names in trade speculation. Given his electric stuff and front-of-the-rotation potential, it wasn’t surprising that contending teams reportedly reached out to the Reds to gauge his availability.

However, it now appears that one of the deadline’s biggest rumored blockbusters is unlikely to happen. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has cast significant doubt on the possibility of Greene being dealt, suggesting Cincinnati has little interest in moving its ace despite the growing number of inquiries from around the league.

Reds Appear Committed to Keeping Greene

For weeks, rumors suggested the Reds could consider moving Greene if presented with the right offer. Those reports fueled speculation that several contenders were preparing blockbuster packages in hopes of landing one of baseball’s premier young pitchers.

Rosenthal’s latest comments paint a different picture.

While he acknowledged that clubs have been calling Cincinnati about Greene, he indicated the Reds are not expected to trade the talented right-hander. That significantly changes the outlook for teams hoping to add an ace before the deadline.

Health Remains the Biggest Concern

Rosenthal also pointed out the one issue that continues to follow Greene throughout his career: durability.

When he’s on the mound, Greene has proven he possesses some of the best stuff in Major League Baseball and can dominate opposing lineups. The problem has been staying healthy long enough to consistently provide that impact.

This season has been another example, as Greene has already missed more than half of the year because of injuries. While his talent has never been questioned, his availability remains an important factor for both the Reds and any team that may have considered pursuing him.

Contenders May Need to Look Elsewhere

In baseball, no player is ever completely untouchable, and a massive trade offer could always change an organization’s thinking.

Still, Rosenthal’s report suggests it would take an extraordinary package for Cincinnati to even consider parting with Greene.

That likely means teams searching for frontline pitching will now shift their attention to other available starters as the deadline approaches. With one of the market’s biggest rumored names seemingly off the table, the demand for the remaining top pitchers could increase even further.

For now, it appears the Hunter Greene trade speculation has cooled considerably. Unless another club overwhelms the Reds with an offer they simply can’t refuse, Cincinnati’s ace is expected to remain exactly where he is.
