Milwaukee Bucks to re-sign Gary Trent Jr. to 4-year, $64-million contract

The Milwaukee Bucks are bringing back one of their own free agents in Gary Trent Jr., agreeing to sign the 27-year-old shooting guard to a 4-year, $64 million contract on July 11. The deal is full guaranteed and contains no options.

At $16 million annually, Trent is the fourth-highest paid player on the Bucks behind guard Tyler Herro ($33 million), center Myles Turner ($26.4 million) and forward Kyle Kuzma ($20.4 million).

Trent opted out of his minimum player option to enter unrestricted free agency the last week of June.

Trent, who originally signed as a free agent in Milwaukee on a minimum deal for the 2024-25 season, is coming off one of the worst seasons of his eight-year career. Benched in the early going by former head coach Doc Rivers, Trent averaged 21.2 minutes per game (fewest since 2019-20) and shot 38.7% overall and 36% from behind the 3-point line – his worst totals as a full-time NBA player.

The plan to start the 2025-26 season, however, was to surround former Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo with elite shooting and a smaller starting unit that included Trent, Kevin Porter Jr. and AJ Green. In the first dozen games of the season, all starts for Trent, he played about 29 minutes per game and shot 36.8% from behind the 3-point line and averaged 10 points per game.

He would start only nine more games the rest of the season.

The highlight of Trent’s two seasons with the Bucks were two games in the 2025 playoffs against Indiana when, after being placed in the starting lineup, he scored 37 points in Game 3 and 33 points in Game 5 while going 17-for-29 from behind the 3-point line.
