If there is a source leaking rumors about the Boston Celtics wanting to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, it is not coming from the Bucks themselves, shares Milwaukee beat writer Jim Owczarski. The Celtics have been connected to the Greek Freak in the NBA offseason rumor mill for some time now, with rumbles hinting at a potential offer for the Bucks star a threat to upend the Miami Heat‘s quest to land the 6-foot-11 forward.
There has been pushback from fans and analysts both given this supposed intel has been coming from outside the usual reporters who have demonstrated access to the Celtics front office in the past. But the New York Times reporter wants NBA fans to know that these leaks are not coming from the Milwaukee front office either in a recent interview with CLNS Media.
“(Bucks GM) Jon Horst does not leak,” said Owczarski. “He has a very small front office and he does not discuss anything.”
“Quite famously, and this might not be known to Celtics fans, the Damian Lillard trade, he literally created a bunker in the Bucks locker room in the offseason,” added the Milwaukee reporter. “There were people on his immediate staff that did not know what he was doing.”
If so, this narrows the field of who might benefit from such rumors getting out. The Heat aren’t going to drive up their own asking price, nor the Celtics. But if we take this at face value, it could perhaps be coming from an agent, Giannis himself – or unknown parties for unknown motives. As always in silly season, take all these reports with a grain of salt.
