Mikel Arteta has officially agreed terms with Arsenal over what will be a bumper contract extension, according to the BBC.
Masterminding Arsenal’s charge to a first Premier League crown since way back in 2004 last season, the Emirates hierarchy have made it clear that they want to tie their talismanic boss down to a new deal in north London.
Cementing his spot in Gunners folklore, the BBC’s report suggests that all parties have now officially reached an agreement over a contract extension that will see Arteta’s reign go beyond a decade.
The Spaniard’s current deal with the reigning Premier League champions is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 campaign and discussions over a new contract have been ongoing over the past few months.
While the BBC’s report might not confirm the exact length of Arteta’s new deal, it will certainly take his tenure into at least his 10th year in charge after arriving at the club back in December 2019.
Becoming the first manager since Arsene Wenger to guide Arsenal to domestic success, it is also expected that the one-time Manchester City coach is set to receive a hefty pay increase. The BBC suggest that Arteta’s current contract consists of a £10million per season salary that also includes an additional £5million in bonuses.
Speaking to the media last week ahead of their shock 3-0 defeat away at Brighton, Arteta said: “They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
