Analyst suggests ‘realistic’ trade target for Rams amid injuries

The Los Angeles Rams could look to the trade market for help at cornerback after losing Jaylen Watson for the season, and one analyst has identified a potential target from across town.

In a trade-deadline breakdown for CBS Sports, JP Acosta named Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Donte Jackson as a realistic trade option for the Rams. The Chargers entered Week 9 winless at 0-7, potentially making them a team willing to move veteran players before the Nov. 10 deadline.

For a team that wants to play multiple DBs on the field on money downs, going and getting another cornerback has to take priority. Jackson feels like the veteran presence the Rams normally go for in the secondary, with the ability to play multiple roles and thrive in off-coverage.

Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury leaves the Rams without one of their starting cornerbacks. Trent McDuffie, Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Josh Wallace are among the options remaining in the room, but adding an experienced player could give the defense more flexibility as it makes a playoff push.

Jackson, 30, is in his second season with the Chargers after spending time with the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound cornerback has appeared in four games this season, starting three. He’s allowed six completions on nine targets for 69 yards, with two passes defended, one forced fumble and eight total tackles.

Jackson has 26 career interceptions, including four in 2025 with the Chargers and five in 2024 with Pittsburgh.

Acosta’s proposal is a trade scenario, not an indication that the Rams are pursuing Jackson. But with Watson sidelined, cornerback is a position worth monitoring before the deadline.
