Micoff leads by four heading into last round of Northern Michigan Open

CHEBOYGAN — Indian River’s Jon Micoff looks well on his way to a fifth Northern Michigan Open golf title.

Micoff put himself in an excellent position by firing a 64 (6-under) and building a four-shot lead after the first round of the 79th edition of the Open at the Cheboygan Golf & Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Micoff’s impressive day put him four shots ahead of Eric Jimenez (68) and six clear of Hunter Mires (70) and Earl Parsons (70) following the opening round of the championship flight. Micoff, along with Jimenez and Mires, will be in the 2:40 p.m. final-round pairing on Sunday.  

Parsons (70), Patrick Sweeney (71) and Fred Stacks (72) will play in the second-to-last group at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
