Considering Oklahoma City’s terrific rotation of guards, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cason Wallace, Jalen Williams, Ajay Mitchell and etcetera, there’s reason to believe that the Thunder may target frontcourt depth in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft.

Oklahoma City is one of six teams to have multiple first-round selections, as they currently hold the No. 12 and No. 17 overall selections. According to Thunder insider Justin Martinez, the Thunder could be considering a couple of former Michigan Wolverines with those selections, having hosted both Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr. for individual pre-draft workouts. While it may be difficult for the Thunder to land both of these players (each is ranked in the top 14), it seems as though either could be targeted by Oklahoma City at No. 12 overall.

At 6’9″, both Lendeborg and Johnson Jr. are known for their defense, averaging over one block per game. Considering Oklahoma City’s position, they may prefer the more “NBA-ready” prospect (Lendeborg), but other teams may favor Johnson Jr.’s youth (three years younger than Lendeborg). Either way, barring a trade, it seems as though Oklahoma City is targeting length, versatility and defense with the No. 12 overall selection.
