The state of Michigan will likely produce 20+ linebackers who play college football on some level. From two Power Four commits to several in the MAC and Division II, here is the run down of who is committed and who is still looking.
BRYCE KISH – Howell | Clemson
Outstanding all-around athlete who runs 10.9 in the 100 at 6’3, 225 pounds. Plays running back and that was his primary position early on but stepped up at linebacker last year and that is when his recruitment exploded. Fast, versatile and still learning the position which is exciting to consider as far as his upside.
ELLIOTT NEFF – Thornapple Kellogg | Kansas
Was considered a receiver or safety by colleges early on, but it soon became clear his frame and growth potential had him moving towards linebacker. Still runs and covers like a skill guy. Kansas took the shot and it could pay off big for them once he learns the position more.
B.J. ADAMS – Orchard Lake St. Mary’s | Central Michigan
Another who comes from a background of playing multiple positions. Still a hybrid type who the Chips could play in different roles. 6’3, 220 pounds and athletic enough to have caught 34 balls on offense.
BRYCE BARBARINO – Saline | Western Michigan
Had a huge junior season. Always around the action. Tough, take on blocks and plays with physical style. Smart, 4.0 student who processes the game quickly. Shoots gaps quickly. Will be a good one at WMU.
COLLIN SUMPTER – Detroit Cass Tech | Miami (Ohio)
Long and lean at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Moves like a safety but will add the weight and be a heck of a college cover backer. Had over 100 tackles for Cass as a junior.
GANNON LIMOTTE – South Lyon | Eastern Michigan
Good athlete who had 1,114 all-purpose yards on offense. 6’3, 200 pounds and can do a little of everything. Will put the weight on and be a good player at Eastern Michigan.
CARTER CZAPSKI – Utica | Grand Valley State
Ultra-productive with 112 tackles (23 for loss) and seven sacks. Carried the ball some on offense too. Tenacious, runs to the ball like his hair is on fire and simply makes a ton of plays.
JALEN MONTLOUIS – Detroit Catholic Central | Grand Valley State
Runs well, hits, is a team captain. Had a couple offers including Colorado State but chose GVSU who is putting together a very good class. Fits the Laker scheme very well and is a safe bet to be a productive college player.
CHASE HAMILTON – South Lyon East | Northern Michigan
Another multi-positional guy who brings that athleticism to the MIKE linebacker position. Smart holds a 3.4 GPA and shows great instincts. 6’2, 208 pounds and can still fill in.
ROLAND BERRY – River Rouge
Varsity player since his freshman season. Three-sport athlete at 6’1, 215 pounds. Still looking for a home with Youngstown State, Buffalo and others on his offer list.
DARRYL FOLKS – River Rouge
Also been getting offers since his freshman season. Hampton, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and others had previously offered the 6’0, 212-pound Folks.
CONNOR IMSLAND – Dearborn Divine Child
Might be one of the under-appreciated guys in the state. Multi-sport athlete who can play all over the field. On defense, he can play in space and cover but also rush off the edge. Has a handful of offers but his list still doesn’t match his film in our opinion.
HUNTER KAUTH – Clarkston
Has a great nose for the ball and is physical. 74 tackles (nine for loss), three sacks and an interception a season ago. Instinctive and a plus athlete who is also a good baseball player. Northwood, John Carroll and Wittenberg have offered.
DANNY O’NEIL – Northville
5’11, 190-pound son of a coach who is a chess piece on defense who can play out in space and rush off the edge. Effective blitzer with his quickness and aggressiveness but has also shown he can cover a slot.
KIEN MITE – Romulus
Was tough last season making 92 tackles (20 for loss) with four sacks. Compact and strong at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds. Also
JIMMY TOCCO – Warren De La Salle
6’2 and had a good junior year. Made some plays in 7-on-7 as well. Hope College has offered.
DOMINIC STEIN – Glen Lake
Had a huge season with 167 tackles. 6’2, 220 pounds and also does track and field as a thrower. Strong, physical. Has an offer from Calvin.
