Bryce Underwooddelivered once again for the Michigan Wolverines, garnering big praise from Kyle Whittingham after the team’s 17-10 win over the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon.
Underwood is going through his second year as the Wolverines’ full-time starter. He led Michigan to a 9-4 record in Year 1, getting firm trust in his talents as a quarterback for the program.
Underwood struggled in the opener against Western Michigan but ultimately rescued the Wolverines from heartbreak with a game-winning drive. While he has yet to play at his best, Underwood had a decent outing against Oklahoma with nine out of 17 completions for 111 yards while racking up 18 rushes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Whittingham reflected on Michigan’s win after the game on the Fox broadcast. He was high on Underwood’s efforts, seeing progress after the team’s underwhelming display in the opener.
“It was a great effort, team effort. Still got a lot of things to clean up. Way too many penalties, but that’s every week; you got things to clean up. But very proud of the way they responded after our performance last week, and that was great to see. They worked hard all week in practice, and it showed out here today,” Whittingham said.
“Great response by Bryce. Thought he played an excellent game. I don’t think we turned the ball over. I think there was zero turnovers for us, so that was huge, and the defense was lights out pretty much the entire game.

How Bryce Underwood, Michigan played against Oklahoma
Kyle Whittingham hopes to see significant growth from Bryce Underwood and Michigan as they go through the ups and downs of the regular season. For now, they remain perfect with a 2-0 record after beating ranked Oklahoma at home.
Jordan Marshall got himself active in the rushing attack alongside Underwood, recording 11 carries for 32 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, JJ Buchanan caught two passes for 48 yards.
The Wolverines will look forward to their next matchup, remaining at home. They host the UTEP Miners in Week 3 as kickoff commences on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
