Michigan cornerback Zeke Berry missed Michigan’s Week 3 contest versus UTEP, but Michigan defensive coordinator Jay Hill provided encouraging news about Berry’s status for Saturday’s tilt against Iowa.
“We expect Zeke back,” Hill said on Wednesday. “He practiced yesterday. He’ll practice today.”
If Berry does indeed play on Saturday, he’ll be up against Iowa’s No. 90-ranked passing offense. Earlier this week, Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham also expressed confidence that Berry will be able to go on Saturday. Whittingham said that Berry was a game-time decision last week, but the safer course of action was to sit him and let Shamari Earls get reps.
“He should be good to go for next week,” Whittingham said. “We didn’t have any setbacks, obviously, because he didn’t play. He’s a really important part of our secondary, and we’re hoping we get him back next week.”
This is Berry’s fifth season at Michigan, and he has 83 career tackles with three interceptions. Berry is up to 10 tackles this year but has yet to tally an interception. This is an important season for Berry, who opted to return for a final year instead of entering the NFL Draft. Berry is undoubtedly aiming to boost his draft stock, and he’ll only be able to do so if he returns to the field — and it sounds like that will happen on Saturday.
