I still don’t understand how the New York Mets could look at the season they’ve had over the last few months and think there’s any decision other than moving on from multiple players. 

The Mets, now 34-43 and 14.0 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East, are simply not in a position to do anything on either side of the baseball at the trade deadline. 

Unless the Mets go on some ridiculous run over the next month and a half, which they haven’t shown us they have the ability to do, there’s just absolutely no reason for this team to even consider buying. In fact, selling would be the only right thing to do, which is why the latest report doesn’t make much sense.

“Never in a million years did anyone, especially the New York Mets, think they’d be in a position to sell at the trade deadline. Alas, here they are at 34-42 and last place in the National League East, and it has to be a serious thought. Still, David Stearns and the Mets insist that selling isn’t a consideration right now. They want to win and get back into contention. But at 15 games out of the division, that’s an extremely tall task,” Robert Murray wrote.

I understand having some optimism about potentially reaching a playoff spot, but I think it’s rather crazy for the Mets to think they actually have a chance right now.
