Mets remove interim tag, make Andy Green full-time manager with 3-year deal

The New York Mets have signed interim manager Andy Green to a three-year deal, the team announced on Tuesday.

“Andy has connected with and pushed our players to perform, despite the disappointment of the season,” Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement. “Over the last several months he has brought discipline, accountability and positivity to the clubhouse, attributes we were seeking in our next manager.”

The 49-year-old Green took over for Carlos Mendoza, who was fired on June 26 after a 34-47 start to the 2026 season. He was originally hired by the Mets in 2023 in a player development role. He previously managed the San Diego Padres to a 274-366 record between 2016 and 2019.

After being handed the interim role, president of baseball operations David Stearns said that Green would move back to the front office after the season. That plan has changed over the past three months.

“When I accepted the interim role, I didn’t anticipate it becoming permanent, but the more time I spent with our players and staff, the clearer it became that this is where my passion and experience could make the greatest impact,” Green said in a statement.

Through 75 games under Green, the Mets have posted a 37-38 record and are 31-28 since the All-Star break.

With six games left in the regular season, New York is last in the NL East with a 71-85 record. They will miss out on the postseason for the second consecutive season and third in the last four.
