Marc Guéhi says Manchester City players remain composed despite the club being found guilty of cheating, owing to their confidence in what they have been told.
City maintain their innocence regarding breaches of financial regulations and are appealing the verdict – which saw them found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League – with the squad quickly accepting reassurances from club leadership.
Guéhi is part of the four-man leadership group at the Etihad, having been handpicked by Enzo Maresca during the summer to join the setup. Captain Rúben Dias and his deputy Erling Haaland were both at the club when the charges were first announced in 2023, and have spearheaded calls for the players to channel their energy into winning games.

“The club notified everyone straight away so we were pretty calm,” he said, via the Manchester Evening News. “There were a lot of relaxed faces because we have a lot of trust and belief in the club and what’s been going on here.
“It’s been nice, it’s been good. We get to see a lot of togetherness. The team spirit has been really fantastic from every single person and player – especially the staff and the fans that are backing us. To be honest, it’s been great to see.
“It can be very easy to listen to the noise and be affected by everything going on but I’m so happy to see the team spirit and everyone taking to what’s happening and just focusing on the football.”
City brought Guéhi on board during the January transfer window, yet the former Crystal Palace skipper instantly believed the information he received when reports of City’s guilty verdict first emerged three weeks ago. The 26-year-old remains committed to being part of the club’s future as they fight to reverse the ruling handed down against them.

“Ever since I’ve got here they’ve been nothing but fantastic with me,” he added. “The support that I’ve had with tough times on and off the pitch. I’m aware of the success the club has had and I want to be part of the future success. You get the sense from everyone at the football club that it’s a family club, people love one another. I can only talk from my experience.”
