Tom Heaton, Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte remain sidelined, and new signing Carlos Baleba is out with an ankle issue Carrick expects to keep him out for “a couple of weeks or so, maybe three weeks.” Amad Diallo is also expected to miss out, with Carrick saying he “will be out for a little bit longer.” Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martínez and Kobbie Mainoo are all “massively in contention” to start after coming off the bench against Hull following their late returns from World Cup duty.

Azor Matusiwa (thigh) and Florentino Luis (calf) both remain out, with O’Neil saying the latter is “improving well” but “still got a bit of work to do.” Jack Taylor (knee) and Jaden Philogene (ankle) are also unavailable. New signing Exequiel Palacios could make an immediate debut, with O’Neil saying of the World Cup winner: “I’m sure you’ll see him on Sunday.”
