Celtic had to battle both a tenacious Hibernian side and also difficult weather conditions in order to come away with all three points from Easter Road.
The win came courtesy of two first-half goals – an own goal from Jason Kerr which cancelled out a very early Owen Elding opener, and then another superb Camilo Duran strike.
The Colombian netted his 10th goal of the season just before half-time and that proved enough to give the Hoops a 2-1 win, with the victory restoring the side’s four-point lead at the top of the table.
Speaking to CelticPlayer after the game, Martin O’Neill said: “I was obviously delighted to win the game, coming from a goal behind, and with the blustery conditions.
“We’ve given Hibs a big, big lift by their early goal but thankfully, we scored pretty quickly afterwards which settled us down.
“We took the lead just before half-time and even though we’re playing generally against the wind in the second half, we saw it through.
“Considering the circumstances, considering the conditions, considering Thursday night and the game we played, and a very early Sunday morning start, then I felt this was our best win of the season. I genuinely think that.”
Martin O’Neill was delighted with contribution of Camilo Duran, who once again showed his quality in scoring the decisive goal on the day, taking his tally for the campaign into double figures.
“He’s brilliant and it was a really brilliant finish,” he said. “The minute he picks that ball on the edge of the penalty box, you almost feel as if he’s going to score a goal as well too.
“So it was a fantastic, and eventually it turned out to be the winning goal, but it was a great goal anyway.”
And the manager also explained that they will assess Alistair Johnston, after the Canadian internationalist was forced to come off just 20 minutes into his return from injury.
