· · 1 min read

The Dallas Cowboys got some not so good news on Friday afternoon. Malik Davis, who earned the RB2 role after a terrific preseason and training camp, has suffered a hip injury which has put his status for Week 1 versus the New York Giants in jeopardy.

This is a pretty big blow to the Cowboys offense that will already be without All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith for at least four weeks as he deals with a thumb issue. It may mean more reps for Hunter Luepke, and newcomer Emari Demercado might see more action a lot quicker than he thought. We’ll have to see how the Cowboys utilize their roster if Davis can’t go against the Giants.

We’ll have the full injury report out later this afternoon which may shed more light on the Davis injury and how long he may be out if he has to miss time.
