Luke Floriea update: Former Browns WR still unsigned, gets NFC tryout

Almost every year, almost every team in the NFL has a player or two that their fanbase knows should make the initial 53-man roster and whose fanbase is equally shocked when they do not. Most of the time, that player ends up on the original team’s practice squad and fades into memory.

For the Cleveland Browns, that player this year was WR Luke Floriea. In three preseason games, Floriea had six catches for 95 yards and three touchdowns, with a fourth barely touching the ground. It wasn’t enough, with the smaller receiver having a few strikes against him in making the Browns roster.

Then came word that Floriea would also not be brought back to Cleveland’s practice squad, leading to a bit of shock from Browns fans.

Practice squads around the NFL have filled up this week, including Cleveland adding the final piece in CB Michael Coats Jr. on Thursday. Absent from any and all practice squad news was Floriea’s name, until Thursday afternoon, with a report that he worked out for the Seattle Seahawks this week:

A Kent State product, the 5’8″ showed his good hands, quickness, and speed as a receiver in two training camps near his hometown of Mentor, Ohio.

The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks already have three receivers on their practice squad, as noted by Field Gulls, which could make it more difficult for Floriea to secure a spot.
