Luis Enrique said Paris Saint-Germain can never take a win over Classique rivals Marseille for granted, after they battled to a 2-1 success at the Stade Velodrome.
Marquinhos’ 74th-minute strike settled the contest as PSG claimed back-to-back Ligue 1 victories, having started their campaign with three winless games.
The Brazilian’s goal came just two minutes after Angel Gomes got Marseille back on level terms, with that strike also coming hot on the heels of Ferran Torres’ opener.
Marseille had captain Timothy Weah sent off shortly after going 2-1 down, with the United States international hauling Nuno Mendes down from behind while already on a yellow card.
PSG have now won 10 of their last 14 away Ligue 1 games against Marseille (D3 D1), though Nayef Aguerd missed a huge chance to snatch a point for OM deep into stoppage time, as he headed wide on the stretch.
And Luis Enrique says three points will never come easily for any visiting side at the Velodrome.
“It was the match we had planned for, with a lot of difficulties. Everyone said it would be easy, but playing at the Velodrome is not an easy thing,” he told Ligue 1+.
“We tried to play, we created fewer chances in the first half because the opponent defended very well. In the second half, everything changed, we made a very good effort.”

The result piles more pressure on Bruno Genesio, who is the first Marseille boss to lose four of his first five league games in charge of the club since the duo of Willy Kohut and Andre Gascard in 1938.
Marseille will spend the three-week international break 17th in the Ligue 1 table, with this the latest point into a season that they have sat in the relegation zone since 2011-12, when they were 20th with three points after six games and ultimately finished 10th.
But Luis Enrique expects them to come good eventually, saying: “Nothing was easy, we saw a very good OM team, with the way they defended. They have a great coach, I’m sure they will improve.”
Genesio himself, however, admits Marseille’s results have fallen well short of the required standard and has revealed he will hold talks with the club’s hierarchy during the break.
“It’s funny, everyone wishes me good luck. I’m a coach, so obviously I’m linked to the performances and results, especially at a club like OM,” he said.
“This is insufficient, I assume my share of responsibility, as others will have to assume it too.
“I’m not there yet, I’m going to digest this defeat, talk to my staff, talk to my directors.
“Because I think – and I’m trying to weigh my words – that it’s not normal for OM to be in this situation.”
While PSG host Le Mans in their next Ligue 1 game on October 10, Marseille go to Troyes the following day.
