Loggers Legion team sweeps doubleheader from Twins

Jun. 12—Libby got outhit by the Glacier Twins, but coming up with 19 free bases — 14 walks and five hit batters — paved the way for the Loggers’ 14-4 win in the first game of a Western A Legion doubleheader Wednesday. Libby triumphed in the nightcap as well, 12-2. Loggers 14, Twins 4 Mason Crowe hit a two-run single and Bransen Holzer added an RBI double as the Loggers (2-3) put up six runs in the sixth. The last three runs scored on passed balls, making it 14-4. Holzer took over on the mound in the bottom of the inning and retired the Twins in order, ending the game under the run rule. Four Libby pitchers combined to give up six hits and seven walks; Holzer had the only two strikeouts. Four pitchers threw for Glacier as well, allowing four hits. Kaleb Stevens gave up a hit, three walks and one run in 2 1-3 innings, fanning two. Travis Banks had two hits and three RBIs for the Twins. Holzer had two RBIs for Libby and Jordan Griffin had a hit and RBI. Ian Thom also had a hit. Nine of the 10 Loggers scored runs; Boe Miles, Brody Gilmore, Kale Riddle, Crowe and Griffin all scored twice. Loggers 12, Twins 2 Libby broke out the bats in the second game, collecting out 13 hits, including an RBI double by Kale Riddle in the third inning and an RBI triple from Holzer in the fifth. Riddle’s double made it 5-0, and the Twins rallied in their half. A hit batter, a walk and Mason Muller’s single loaded the bases ahead of a misplayed fly ball, letting in Banks and Trenton Derosa. Hunter Rooney’s two-run single boosted Libby’s lead back to 7-2 in the fourth; in the fifth Holzer’s triple made it 9-2 and he came home on Gilmore’s single. The gap grew to 12-2 with two passed balls. In the bottom of the fifth Jack Nagle worked around a walk and a single to keep Glacier off the board, and the game again ended early under the run rule. James Woody pitched the first three innings for Libby, allowing three hits, two walks and two runs. He fanned three. Nagle allowed one hit and two walks, with one strikeout. Holzer, Gilmore, Thom and Riddle all scored twice; Rooney, Kale Hall and Dalton Cannon all drove in two runs.
