It has been a busy start to the offseason for Liverpool, as the Merseyside club has seen somewhat of a mass exodus from Anfield, with the likes of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, and Arne Slot making their way out. There are more exits on the cards for the Reds, as the likes of Curtis Jones, Federico Chiesa, and, most recently, Dominik Szoboszlai have all been linked with interest from other clubs, with the Hungarian catching the eyes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.

But according to a recent report, it appears that the Reds have no plans to let the Hungarian midfielder go in the transfer window, and would rather see him as a core part of the team’s plans going forward, as well as their transfer target, Crystal Palace‘s Adam Wharton.

The Reds want Wharton

According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Liverpool view Wharton as their premier target, while they also have their eyes on Bournemouth‘s Alex Scott as they look to bolster their midfield department.

“Liverpool have made it clear that Dominik Szoboszlai is going nowhere this summer as they accelerate plans to reshape their midfield around him and top target Adam Wharton, with the Reds now ‘intensifying’ their interest in the Crystal Palace star…” states Bailey. “The Reds are pressing ahead with plans to strengthen the centre of the park under Andoni Iraola and sources have confirmed that Crystal Palace midfielder Wharton and Bournemouth star Alex Scott remain among the club’s most desired targets.”

While Wharton missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s England camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it’s clear that he didn’t have a bad campaign with the Eagles last season, recording seven assists and a lone goal through his 51 appearances, as well as 39 interceptions and winning out on 55 tackles.

It’s worth noting that the 22-year-old would add some trophy-winning pedigree to the Reds’ squad, as he is coming off a triumph in the Conference League with Crystal Palace. This admittedly isn’t the level at which he’d be playing if he were with Liverpool, as they’ve secured a spot in the Champions League for the coming season.

The Englishman joins the list of players that Liverpool have been interested in acquiring in the coming months, with Moroccan wonderkid Ayoubb Bouaddi and Ivorian winger Yan Diomonde being linked with moves to Anfield.
