Liverpool have no intention of sanctioning Florian Wirtz exit in January

Liverpool have no intention of allowing Florian Wirtz to leave Anfield in January, according to German transfer journalist Christian Falk.

While the 23-year-old might have arrived in the red half of Merseyside last summer for a record-breaking fee of £116million, the former Bayer Leverkusen starlet has struggled to find his feet since joining England’s elite.

Yet to open his Premier League account this season, the Germany international has already been linked with an immediate return to his homeland.

However, while reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich might still hold a long-term interest in the 45-cap international, Falk reported this week that the Anfield hierarchy have no intention of cashing in when the window reopens.

Previously linked with a blockbuster switch to Bavaria before officially arriving at Liverpool back in June 2025, it appears that Bayern are still keeping a close eye on proceedings and have identified Wirtz as a dream replacement should Michael Olise reject a new deal with the club.

Although Wirtz might still be regarded as one of Europe’s hottest attacking starlets, he has registered just five goals in his 39 Premier League appearances and has found some serious scrutiny mounting on his young shoulders.

Nevertheless, receiving a comprehensive backing from new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola and with the ex-Bournemouth manager making it clear that the former Leverkusen playmaker remains an integral part of his plans.
