Liverpool could give Bayern a fresh transfer problem as “interest” emerges

Bayern Munich are not currently looking at re-signing Paul Wanner amid links to Liverpool Football Club.

The Bavarian giants sold the then 19-year-old in the summer of 2025 for a fee worth an initial €15m [£12.8m] to Dutch outfit PSV.

The midfielder has since gone on to rack up 40 appearances in all competitions for Eindhoven (just one shy of his total for Heidenheim).

It’s worth emphasising that major clubs in Europe are keeping their powder dry when it comes to the possibility of snapping up the former Bayern youth star.

However, there’s always the possibility this situation could change when clubs like Liverpool – who do have an interest in developing young talent – are involved.

“It is NOT TRUE: Bayern Munich are extremely keen on bringing Paul Wanner back to Munich. FC Bayern gave him away, so they always have the chance to get him back, but they’re currently okay in this position,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“There is interest from some clubs around, like Liverpool, there have always been talks. But he’s a young player (at 20 years of age), and he has to show he’s good enough to play for a massive club.

“I heard Wanner’s focus and concentration are 100% on PSV Eindhoven currently. He’s determined to show he’s the best in his position in the Dutch top-flight. Then this can bring him into the focus of top clubs. At the moment, it’s not hot with Bayern.”

Of course, at 20 years of age, and with only 116 senior appearances made across Bayern, Heidenheim, PSV and Elversberg, you can forgive the Merseyside giants for holding fire.

Say it quietly, but Wanner has shown signs of immense promise early on in his PSV career.

Among midfielders in the Eredivisie last term, the Austrian compares favourably for non-penalty xG, xA and big chances created.

Now, he’s not necessarily dominant against the ball, but if Bayern are looking for a profile that prioritises ball progression and chance creation, there are some reassuring signs around Paul Wanner’s performances in the Netherlands.

Mind, he’s still got quite a way to go to get within touching distance of Joshua Kimmich’s numbers on the ball.

And we’re sure it hasn’t gone unnoticed that the Germany international is competing in a significantly tougher league than his PSV counterpart.

Nonetheless, we think it’s worth keeping an eye on Wanner’s development.
