Liverpool are considering a move for former academy graduate Tyler Morton as they look to add more defensive strength to their midfield during the January transfer window.
The Reds have continued to follow the 23-year-old since his departure from Anfield, with his progress at Lyon apparently keeping him on their recruitment radar. As per Football Insider, there has been no concrete approach for the midfielder yet.

Liverpool are expected to explore several midfield options in the coming months, with Andoni Iraola keen to bring in another player who can operate deeper.
Morton could be an attractive option because of his familiarity with the club and his development since leaving England. The midfielder made just 14 senior appearances for Liverpool before completing a £15 million move to Lyon in 2025 to find more regular first-team football.
His reputation has grown considerably in France. Morton featured 43 times across all competitions for Lyon last season, contributing two goals and three assists, and has established himself as an important member of their squad.

Morton could be an expensive option
A return to Merseyside would nevertheless be complicated by Lyon’s stance. The French club are reluctant to lose the midfielder halfway through the season and would reportedly try to prevent a January departure.
Liverpool also have several midfielders under consideration, so Morton is not necessarily their primary target. Nevertheless, his defensive qualities and understanding of the club could make him an appealing option if the recruitment team decides to pursue a new number six.
Liverpool have clearly not lost sight of their former academy prospect, but whether that interest develops into a formal approach remains to be seen.
