Rasmus Hojlund has sparked a huge reaction after appearing to push Jorge Jesus following Denmark’s 4-2 defeat to Portugal, shortly after celebrating his goal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu”.
Hojlund pulled Denmark level at 2-2 in the 53rd minute before performing Ronaldo’s trademark celebration, a fitting moment given the striker’s admiration for the Portuguese legend.
Portugal eventually secured the win through goals from Joao Cancelo, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha and Joao Felix, but the post-match interaction between Hojlund and Jesus quickly became another talking point.
Fans react after Rasmus Hojlund pushes Jorge Jesus
Hojlund was exchanging handshakes with the Portugal players when Jesus approached him. After the pair briefly interacted, the Denmark striker appeared to push the manager backwards before walking away.
The moment came just days after Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp following tension with Jesus, who had left the veteran on the bench against Norway and confirmed he would not start against Denmark.
Fans were quick to connect Hojlund’s actions with Ronaldo’s situation.
One supporter wrote: “I love this guy 😭😭😭❤️”
Another simply said: “He is one of us”
A third fan praised Hojlund’s generation, writing: “This is what a good generation looks like: not imitating the disgusting attitude of those who disrespect the legends who have contributed so much through their achievements in their own country.”
Another supporter referenced Ronaldo’s influence, saying: “Ronaldo is an institution which if you fight against you’ll be fighting against an army of people”
The striker’s celebration also became part of the conversation, with one fan joking: “does the siu, then pushes jorge jesus away. ronaldo’s most loyal employee in europe doesn’t even play for portugal”
Another added: “man hit the siuuu and immediately gained the confidence to fight veteran european managers on the touchline 😂”
Not everyone was convinced by the gesture, however.
“Capitalizing on Ronaldo’s downfall to pick up some following on social media 😭 very clever man Hojlund”
One supporter offered a different view: “Not really necessary. I idolize Ronaldo too. But Højlund behavior means nothing to change the situation on ground. He could have made sure Portugal do not win this game”
Another summed up the chaotic scenes simply: “Pure chaos on the pitch.”
Hojlund’s post-match moment has now added another layer to a Portugal story that has been dominated by Ronaldo’s departure and his fallout with Jesus.
