Live Q&A: Apple Store pioneer Ron Johnson talks retail strategy, careers, and lessons from Steve Jobs

When Ron Johnson joined Apple in 2000, conventional wisdom said the internet would soon make physical stores obsolete.

In partnership with Apple CEO Steve Jobs, he opened hundreds of Apple Stores, generating millions for the company and introducing Apple products to a new swath of consumers.

Johnson’s new book, “Shop Different,” details the strategy behind the stores and offers a broad look at Johnson’s retail career, including his time as CEO of JCPenney and 15 years at Target.

Business Insider’s Ana Altchek sits down with Johnson in the Business Insider newsroom for a live Q&A on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to discussing Johnson’s time at Apple, Altchek will get the retail veteran’s take on what’s working — and what’s not — in retail today.

And, as a career and leadership reporter, she’ll ask his advice on topics like handling a difficult boss and making a good impression during an interview.
