Lions announce Monday roster moves, Joshua Dobbs signing

The Detroit Lions officially announced the signing of veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs on Monday afternoon.

Reports broke on Sunday that the Lions were set to sign Dobbs. Detroit suddenly needed another veteran presence after Teddy Bridgewater abruptly decided to retire during Lions training camp.

In its corresponding move, Detroit placed defensive tackle Aidan Keanaaina on injured reserve.

Dobbs has appeared in 27 games and started 15 in his career, passing for 3,346 yards and 17 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback has completed 62.8% of his passes throughout his NFL career. Dobbs has a 3-12 record as a starter.

The Lions reportedly inked Dobbs to a one-year, $1.425 million deal with $475,000 fully guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

Keanaaina joined the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of California following the 2026 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle appeared in 36 games across six seasons at Cal and Notre Dame, tallying 112 tackles (42 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one pass defended.
