Lionel Messi was at it again at the World Cup in Argentina’s opening game, showing once again why he’s the GOAT with a hat-trick in a 3-0 win for the defending champions.
The goals also saw Messi equal Miroslav Klose’s record as the World Cup’s all-time goalscorer with 16 and left another great goalscorer, Erling Haaland, purring.
“Messi is a madman,” he posted on Snapchat in response to Messi’s latest heroics.
Meanwhile, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni admitted he was “speechless” after seeing Messi bag three goals for his country.
“I’m speechless when it comes to Leo Messi. He’s been doing this for 20 years. What he does and conveys is incredible,” he told reporters.
“Besides scoring three goals, Messi carried the team on his shoulders, and as long as he wants, he’ll be the best . It’s exciting to watch him, for Argentinians and anyone who loves football, at almost 39 years old. It’s hard to explain.”
Argentina and Messi play again on Monday at World Cup 2026 against Austria.
