During this time of the year, it’s difficult to truly evaluate offensive line play without the pads being on and that physical element being restricted. But through OTAs and Day 1 of minicamp, head coach Liam Coen is pleased with the depth of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line unit.
This is one position group that didn’t experience any roster turnover from last season. Those who made up the depth chart on last year’s 53-man roster are still on the team, and the Jaguars added Emmanuel Pregnon to the mix in the NFL draft.
“The chemistry and continuity’s been there and it’s been good,” Coen said on Tuesday. “Nice to see some of the young guys get some reps and be thrown into the fire and thrown into the mix. It’s just always nice when you have a lot — I mean, right now, we got nine guys that I would feel confident and comfortable putting into a game right now and say, ‘Let’s go win and see what happens.'”
The abundance of depth creates competition, not only for potential playing time, but spots on the depth chart.
Right now, the safe assumption is that the starting five this season looks the same as last year, but for a team that embraced competition along the offensive line last year at this time, there’s no reason to think the Jaguars won’t do that again, specifically at guard, where Wyatt Milum and Pregnon — two recent Day 2 picks — could push for snaps.
One area where the Jaguars’ offensive line unit must improve this season is in the run game. Overall in 2025, the Jaguars ranked 27th in yards per rush. From Week 10 on, there were five games where Etienne failed to rush for over 60 yards.
A good run game keeps an offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations, thus taking some of the burden off the passing game, which is then able to operate from manageable down and distances.
As good as the Jaguars’ offense was down the stretch in 2025, adding a steady run game to that mix will help this unit reach a new level.
“So you’re building your depth right now,” Coen said. “You’re building the continuity and chemistry with the younger guys coming into the mix, and then once we get to the pads, we’ll see what we actually have in terms of being able to move people and run the football.”
